MUSEUM NEWS
Our permanent
exhibit this Summer is Zadock Pratt, A Man and His Town.
This exhibit includes interesting facts, pictures,
paintings and items from Zadock Pratts era.
On Saturday,
July 27 the Board of Directors is hosting a Historic
Progressive Dinner. The first stop,
starting at 6:00 PM, will be for appetizers at the Zadock
Pratt Museum (1828) where you will be able to view the Museum
and its current exhibit. The second stop on the
tour (about 6:45 PM) will be for salads, across the street at
the Old Episcopal Manse (1845). This home is an example of the
Gingerbread Gothic style and is currently being restored and
painted in historic colors. It is in the shape of a cross and
was the parsonage for the Episcopal Church, also built in 1845,
but no longer standing. The third stop is for our
main course (about 7:30 PM) at the Hardenbergh Manor House
(1780). This house stands on the original Hardenbergh Patent
over 1.5 million acres granted by Queen Anne in 1708 under the
Patroon system. Much admired for its original, majestic stone
grandeur, it is the oldest building in the Catskills. The
final stop, for dessert (about 8:30 PM)
is on the falls in what was once the Jacob Myers & Co,
cabinet, furniture and coffin factory. The original building,
erected prior to 1854, was swept away twice in floods during the
late 1800s. Reservations and payment in advance ($40 per
person) are required; limited to 40.

THE GARDEN GIRLS
Have you had
the pleasure of seeing our herb garden in its full glory? Well,
now is the thyme! Located at the side of the Pratt Museum,
the Garden Girls maintain over 100 varieties of herbs for your
horticultural pleasure. Brochures are available at the Museum
for a self-guided tour of the entire garden. The Garden Girls
comprise: Lee Buchar, Nancy Cohen, Nancy Haney, Janet Orlando,
and Muriel Pons.
The front of
the Museum is also plentiful with blooms and care, thanks to Mr.
& Mrs. Herbert Falke, Diane Eklund and Evelyn Cammer. Thank
you, one and all!!! ^Top.
IT IS WITH
DEEPEST REGRET
Joe Fiorillo,
a prior Board Member, passed away this Spring. We would like to
express our sympathy to his family and friends and let them know
that he was a valued member of the Pratt Museum family, as well.

TO
OUR MEMBERS AND SPONSORS
Prattsville
was in the news this Spring regarding a proposed September 11th
remembrance. We want everyone to know that the Museum Board
formally voted at our April 10, 2002 Board Meeting to remain
neutral on the issue.

CATSKILL
WATERSHED GRANT
The Museum
recently received a very generous grant from the Catskill
Watershed Corporation to begin stabilizing and restoring the
small, brown Commercial Building at the west of town, circa
1824. One, if not the first, of the buildings to be built by
Zadock Pratt, and donated to the Museum by Andrew Dresser, our
vision is to have it become the Western Gateway to the
Mountaintop. We will be seeking additional matching funds in
the future to fully restore the building to its original design.

SEEKING A VOLUNTEER
The Pratt
Museum would like to hold a Historic
Road Rally
this Fall together with other towns in the Western Gateway to
the Mountaintop. If you have participated in a rally and could
use your local knowledge to create a successful challenge to
novice or experienced road rally participants, please give us a
call we need your enthusiasm and assistance.

DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA?
Museum Board
meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month. We are
always looking for ideas and volunteers. If there is an event
that you think could be successful, an exhibit that you would
like to see, if you would like to volunteer your time or skills,
please call ahead and we will arrange for you to attend one of
our Board meetings. ^Top
PLATINUM
BUSINESS MEMBERSHIP
Did you know
that a Platinum
Business Membership entitles your organization to a web
page on the Pratt Museum website? For $100 per year your
organization will get photos and descriptions on this website
that has been in existence since 1998 and is a source of
information for the Mountaintop area, local history, and other
items of interest. Since July 2001, there have been nearly
20,000 individual visits to the site so people are using it
to plan their trips, find local churches, dine out, find places
to stay and just enjoy this region so close to New York City
yet so far. Please visit our website,
www.prattmuseum.com, and if you are interested
in having your own page, call Barbara Cernikovsky at
518-299-3369. ^Top

special expertise in fundraising or would like to become a
member or chair some fundraisers that we are planning feel
